RECORDINGS – live
Bastianini’s career coincided with the emergence of the tape recorder as a consumer product. (How I recall my first: a neat and shiny Wollensack!). So it is understandable that EB’s fine baritone became a target of opera enthusiasts equipped with a tape machine. Some would dutifully record broadcast opera while especially intrepid types would venture into the opera house with a portable machine and come away with a precious aural souvenir. Thus, I suspect Bastianini’s voice exists on innumerable tapes, with the following known to exist. Some have reached general circulation by release in all or in part on LPs and CDs, some no doubt due to the presence of Maria Callas.
